 One of Dubai's oldest heritage sites is the Al Fahidi historical neighbourhood, also known as Al Bastakiya. The district holds memories of an era that pre-dates the Federation of the Emirates, before the union of the Emirati tribes in 1971 and a time when the pearl trade flourished in the region. Located along Dubai Creek, this district is an iconic heritage site that preserves much of its original infrastructure.

There are permanent and temporary halls, a theatre, an educational area, and a recreation area at Etihad Museum Dubai, which is divided into eight pavilions. The visitors get a glimpse of the UAE’s rich heritage and life before the treaty exploring the events from 1968 to the culmination of the unification of the Emirates in 1971 through 1974. It was designed by Moriyama and Teshima Architects, a Canadian firm that has worked on The Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, and Waterloo Region Museum in Kitchener, Ontario.
